Lightning Look to Bounce Back Strong for 2017 Season

After a strong season and coming up short in the 2016 SFCBL Championship to the #17 nationally ranked Pompano Beach Clippers the Delray Beach Lightning are looking to several key pitchers and position players to get them back to the 2017 SFCBL Championship. Pitching looks to be a strong point as they have several arms that are projected to be drafted in the 2017 MLB draft including RHP Troy Bacon (Santa Fe JC/Mississippi State) who topped out at 97 MPH recently during the Florida State Junior College Regional at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. Bacon, who was at the University of Florida as a freshman and then transferred to Santa Fe Junior College for his current sophomore year has committed to Mississippi State for his junior year. Whether he gets to Mississippi State is the question. Currently he is ranked the # 9 junior college prospect in the country and showed very well in front of many scouting supervisors this past weekend.

6'9/235 pound RHP Andrew Carber from Chipola Junior College also looks to be a big part of the Lightning staff as he generally sits 91-94 and tops out at 95 MPH. Carber has generated plenty of interest from MLB scouts with his size and projectability along with his 95 MPH fastball.

University of Central Florida RHP and middle reliever Andy Rohloff will be a key aspect late in the game for the Lightning as he has electric stuff out of the pen at the college level and MLB potential talent. Rohloff pitches at 92-94 MPH and will run it up to 96 MPH during his outings. The key for him is his hard sharp slider which he consistently throws for an out pitch in the 83-86 MPH range.

6'4/215 pound RHP Duane Cyr also has draft potential as he has consistently has been up to 95 MPH this spring at Southeastern Junior College in Iowa.

In the field new comers Jesse Russo (Old Westbury) and Brandon Stone (Boston College) are having solid spring seasons. Key returners include catcher Blaise Maris (South Florida State), utility player Jaime Johnson (Tallahassee C.C.), outfielder Brett Hoberman (Canton University) and RHP Justin Barney (Florida Tech) look to contribute as well.

Watch the Lightning and their MLB prospects opening night June 2nd at Little Fenway in Delray Beach at 630PM.
