Lightning Beat The Blazers 5-0 on Opening Night

On opening night for the South Florida Collegiate League the Delray Beach Lightning defeated the Boca Raton Blazers 5-0 at Miller Park. The game only lasted 4 innings due to inclement weather and there were a few keys to their win on Friday night.

Pedro Duran (Havana, Cuba) got the win tonight going 2.0 IP with no hits allowed, three strikeouts and a walk. He was very effective with his off-speed and control. Lightning players were patient at the plate as they drew multiple walks against the Blazers pitching staff. Jordan Curtis (Florida A&M) went 1-1 with a walk and two stolen bases in the win over Boca. Ryne Niemi (Adams State) had the only Blazers hit of the night off of Duane Cyr (Southeastern C.C.).

Hunter Marze (Mississippi State) had the loss tonight, pitching 2 innings, allowing three hits, five runs, and four walks.

The Lightning now boast a record of 1-0 on the season and will play the West Boca Snappers tomorrow at Lynn University. The Blazers fall to 0-1 to start the season and will play the Phipps Park Barracudas tomorrow at Forest Hill High School.
