2017 SFCBL Playoff Finals Day 1

The 2017 South Florida Collegiate League playoffs continued Sunday with a doubleheader beginning the three game Championship Series. Game 1 was the 1st seed Pompano Beach Clippers against the 2nd seeded Delray Beach Lightning. The Lightning defeated the Clippers 8-0. Adam Heidenfelder (Old Westbury) was the winning pitcher as he threw 6 innings allowing three hits and striking out thirteen batters. Alex Bialakis (The Citadel) took the loss for the Clippers going 4 2/3rd innings, allowing four hits, three runs and striking out four. Michael Perez (University of Miami) went 3 for 5, scoring twice with an RBI for the Lightning. C.J. Alexander (State College of Florida) was the most productive Clippers hitter, going 2-4 on the day. Brandon Morse (Adelphi University) went 2-5, scoring once with a two-run home run in the win. The Delray Beach Lightning took a 1-0 series lead in the championship match up against number 1 seeded Pompano Beach Clippers.

In Game 2 the Clippers defeated the Lightning 13-3 putting on an impressive hitting display. Izzy Cordero (Barry University) was the winning pitcher as he threw 6 innings allowing six hits, three runs and striking out five. Danny Taggert (Adelphi University) took the loss for the Lightning going 5 innings, allowing six hits, four runs and striking out five. Nick Depietro (Suny New Paltz) went 2 for 3 with solo home run for the Lightning. Christian Coipel (Florida International) was very effective for the Clippers going 2-5, scoring twice with a home run and 3 RBI's. Jorge Iza (Farleigh Dickinson) went 3-4 with a home run and 2 RBI's in the Clippers win on Sunday.

The Pompano Beach Clippers even out the series at 1-1 and will face the second seeded Delray Beach Lightning at 6 pm on Monday at Miller Park for the third and final game of the Championship Series.
