Alumni Prepare for 2025 MLB Spring Training![]() Angels SS Zach Neto blasts a home run. 2025 MLB Spring Training is right around the corner with most pitchers and catchers reporting on February 12th and position players reporting on February 17th. Many of our alumni players that are currently in the Major Leagues will be looking to tune themselves up for the 2025 season and some have recently received invitations to participate in MLB Spring Training with a chance to make "The Big Club". Below we are going to spotlight some of our notable alumni that are currently on Major League rosters as well some of our alumni that have received MLB Spring Training invites giving them a chance to make the Major League roster right out of camp. Nolan Schanuel 1B LA Angels Schanuel solidified himself as an every day starter for the Angels in the 2024 season and was the fastest call up to the Major Leagues in the 2023 MLB Draft as he was called up to the Major Leagues a short 39 days after being selected 11th overall on July 9th, 2023. Imagine finishing your college season and two months later you're facing Max Scherzer on a Friday night in front of 45,000 fans! Nolan finished the 2024 season hitting .250 with 13 HR's and 54 RBI's. Zach Neto SS LA Angels Fellow South Florida native and Angels teammateZach Neto was taken 13th overall in the 2022 MLB Draft and has been the starting SS for the Angels since making his debut on September 28th, 2022. Neto was another fast call up to the Major Leagues making his MLB debut just several months after being drafted in July of 2022. While playing in the SFCBL, Neto was a two way player but ended up giving up his pitching career to focus on hitting. Neto, hit .249 with 23 HR's and 77 RBI's in the 2024 MLB season. Cedric Mullins CF Baltimore Orioles Cedric has been a veteran player for the Orioles and is heading into his 8th Major League season with the club since making his debut in 2018. Mullins, was a 13th round pick out of Campbell University and also holds the SFCBL league record for triples which may never be broken. Mullins was named an MLB All-Star in the 2021 season hitting 30 HR's and hitting .291. We had a chance to catch up with Cedric on field at Yankee Stadium September 26th, 2024 and we asked him how he has sustained and maintained such an extensive career. His answer was his routine which includes his training, eating and sleeping habits. Mullins hit .234 with 18 HR's and 32 stolen bases during the 2024 season. Caleb Durbin 2B Milwaukee Brewers Durbin was arguably one of the most talked about prospects during the 2024 offseason as he was originally projected to be the NY Yankees starting 2B, but then, was a big piece in the Brewers-Yankees trade which sent him to Milwaukee and closer Devin Williams to the Bronx. Durbin played at Division III Washington University of St. Louis and was a two-time SFCBL All-Star. Durbin had an outstanding AAA season for the Yankees which was then followed up by an even better Arizona Fall League performance where Durbin hit .312 with 29 stolen bases and 5 HR's. Look out for Durbin making an impact in the Brewers opening day lineup for their 2025 season. CJ Alexander 3B Oakland Athletics Alexander was called up and made his debut with the Atheltics during the 2024 season after being traded from the Kansas City Royals September 3rd, 2024. This was the best thing for the 28 year old infielder as he was stuck behind a loaded Kansas City infield. In many other organizations Alexander would be in his 3rd or even 4th MLB season and was the Royals top prospect according to many different baseball media outlets. Alexander is currently on the 40-man roster and will look to grab a starting position during 2025 spring training. In 2024, Alexander hit .302 with 19 HR's. Joe LaSorsa LHP Cincinnati Reds The former Delray Beach Lightning standout is entering his 3rd MLB season with his 3rd team, this time, with the Reds. LaSorsa is a funky lefty with a sweeping curveball that his consistently kept hitters off balance and himself in a Major League bullpen. Last season, Joe bounced between the Washington Nationals and Tampa Bay Rays posting a 4.58 ERA. LaSorsa will look to prove himself this March to try and earn a spot in the bullpen with his new club. Reds insiders project LaSorsa to have a solid role in the bullpen during the 2025 season. |
